I would like to lose weight by running (and exercise) but my light asthma gets in the way sometimes...?!

Question: I would like to lose weight by running (and exercise) but my light asthma gets in the way sometimes....?
I have tried running up and down my block (which is a hill) a few times, only to find my lungs burning and very tight, leaving me unable to take in deep enough breaths. I can do pushups and situps no problem, but when it comes to weightloss and me feeling better, I know I need to start running. It's very annoying that my asthma is only making me weaker and weaker (and not to mention a little bigger than I'd like to be). Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I should do.? I currently use an inhaler before attempting to run, but the ending results are still the same, and I cannot gain enough breath at the end to even take in what is needed for the inhaler. Please help =[

Thank you,

I have asthma also. When i run my lungs hurt just like you. I would suggest bringing along your inhaler/puffer and some water. Run for 5/10 minutes then have a 1 or 2 minute break.
also, maybe you aren't eating the right foods. Try to eat a diet consisting of fish, fruit, vegetables, red meat, fish, grains AND WATER!! Eat fist sized portions..this also helps.

I hope i help!!Health Question & Answer

If you want to stay in shape, you need to adopt healthy eating habits and make exercise a part of your daily life.

How to start.?

* Choose exercises you enjoy according to your fitness level. Aerobics exercises move the muscles fairly continuously and strengthen the heart and lungs. Examples of such activities are brisk walking, jogging, aerobic dancing, swimming, badminton, cycling and football.
* If you have not exercised for a long time or just started, start slowly and increase gradually over a period of 3 to 6 weeks.

For those who are above 35 years old, overweight, or have medical problems, you need to check with a medical doctor before you embark on an exercise programme.

Frequency or How often.?

* Exercise for at least 20 minutes, 3 times a week or more

Intensity and duration.?

* Do exercise until you perspire and breathe deeply without getting breathless. You should be able to talk or whistle while exercising.
* Do warm up and stretch for at least 5 minutes before exercise. also not to forget to cool down and stretch after exercise.Health Question & Answer

Start running slower. Do not sprint. In running, you will be limited by either your legs getting tired or not being able to move enough air with your lungs. You want to run at a speed where you will be limited by your legs being tired instead of running out of breath. And when your legs are tired, just keep on pushing, then the next time you run it will be sliightly easier to run that same distance and speed.

You will be able to travel much longer distances (and therefore burn more calories) if you decrease your speed. Eventually you will be able to increase your speed.

Whatever the case, it is much easier to cut out an extra cheeseburger than run 10 extra miles to burn those calories off. So it is important to control your eating as well. But regular exercise will help you feel better and stronger.Health Question & Answer
