Getting a job at the YMCA as an instructer?!

Question: Getting a job at the YMCA as an instructer.?
Okay, so I don't know why I never thought about this before, but I am full time college student, and it is hard for me to to work at my regualar part time job because they always expect so much of me. They call me in when I am not supposed to work, and it would just be a lot easier if I could do something like teach a few classes in the evenings at the YMCA. I have taken dance and have been in gymnastics and cheerleading all through my youth, and I would really enjoy something like this. If I could bring in about 500 a month I would be happy.

I don't have any type of ceritfication yet, but how do I go about doing so.? And, how much money does someone make teaching these courses.? Is it hard to get hired.? And, what are the best classes to teach.?Health Question & Answer

Answers:
It's definitely possible, but keep in mind that kids classes don't run in the evening, they are held in the afternoon because kids are in bed by evening. I used to hire for cheerleading instructors, gymnastics, etc. The ones who make the best money are yoga/group fitness instructors. We paid around $25 an hour and each class was 1.25 hours. Our kid class instructors only made about $10 per hour. You won't bring in $500 a month doing that. The Y has their own certifications which you will need to take. Before you even apply, it's good to have your CPR/First Aid cert already done and if you want to teach group fitness, get your AFAA instructor cert-- that way you can begin teaching immediately while you are waiting to get your YMCA Group Ex Instructor cert. Then, just go in and apply at a local YMCA.

Good luck.Health Question & Answer

I saw the job of instructor advertised locally - you need to hold certificates; that is what it said in the ad.

also, lots of YMCA sites and YWCA sites now have registered training colleges teaching fitness certificates so they tend to take people with certificates from their courses - have you thought of shop work, small privately owned retail on basis you work to your class schedule requirements no maybes.Health Question & Answer
