Suggestions for helping loose weight?!

Question: Suggestions for helping loose weight.?
I desperately need to loose some weight, but it seems like I am so down about myself I can't find the motivation to exercise, which is the "magical number" when it comes to weight loss.

I have lost weight before - about 40lbs, but marriage and 2 years later I have gained it all back. I would like to get down to where I was and EVENTUALLY go down lower, but I know it is going to be a long process.

Can anyone provide their success stories or maybe some pointers or motivation lifters for me.? What worked for you, how do you start.? I know its not easy but I need to do this for ME.

Thanks to all who answer honestly and seriously.Health Question & Answer

Well I really know how you feel. I had struggled with my weight for many, many years. Especially after having my children. I have 4 boys.

Yes, I tried almost every diet out there. Although, I managed to lose a considerable amount of weight on many of them. Unfortunately, as soon as I stopped dieting. I put all the weight back on again, plus more.

But after a long battle with my weight. I decided to change my lifestyle. This was by way of eating a healthy balanced diet and taking up regular exercise. The results were absolutely amazing. I managed to lose 48lbs in just over 6 months. That was two and a half years ago. I have since then been able to maintain my weight with ease.

THIS IS HOW I DID IT.

I kept all junk foods, ready made processed meals that you by in the supermarket, alcohol, sugary fizzy drinks, and takeaway meals to an absolute minimum. These are high in refined sugar and full of saturated fat. The two main ingredients which are responsible for that extra weight gain.

Junk food is just what it says - JUNK. With one added ingredient in - FAT.

I also included more whole foods into my diet. Such as brown bread, brown rice, brown pasta, beans & pulses. These are high in fiber and will keep you feeling fuller for longer.

I eat a balanced, low fat diet of:-
Lean meats (no fat on), poulty (no skin on), fish (with scales on), eggs, plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables (including potatoes etc - carborhydrates are very low in fat as long as you keep them plain and simple), low fat diary products, skimmed milk, sugar free beverages, and non sugary cereals.

Try to MOVE as MUCH as YOU CAN. EXERCISE will really help to accelerate your weight loss. I took up running. Obviously I had to start off very slowly. I now run on a regular basis and am hoping to run my first marathon in the New Year. I also cycle when I can, and walk much more than I ever did.

Exercise is beneficial regardless of your diet. However, 80% of your physique is a result of what you eat. 20% is exercise.

I also made a food journal. This was really helpful, especially on the weeks I had a good weight loss. I was able to refer this. It is surprising how much food I was eating. I don't have a food journal any more.

THIS IS HOW I MAINTAIN MY WEIGHT.

* I continue to eat a balanced, low fat diet with plenty of fruit and vegetables.
* Don't avoid any foods, just really watch my portion sizes and LIMIT the amount of certain foods.
* Make sure I have three regular meals a day. (Always starting with breakfast). This way you are more likely to have fewer snacks.
* I eat out. But when I do I make healthy choices.
* I DO LIMIT Junk Food.
* I always sit down to eat my meals. Take time over them and pay attention to what I am eating. Learn how to choose, prepare and enjoy a balanced diet.
* I have two photos on my fridge of me. One before I lost weight and one after I lost the weight. These are there to remind me of which way I would rather be.
* Keep self-monitoring to say concious of my eating and activity habits.
*Stay active. Getting regular exercise is one of the strongest indicators of long term success. Not only does it burn calories and increase metabolism. It also boosts self esteem and beats stress.

As you know there is no magic formula when it comes to quick and easy weight loss. The weight didn't go on over night and it won't come off over night.

But one thing you have to remember though. Once you have reached your target weight. If you go back to old eating habits and activity levels. You will put the weight back on again. It is a simple as that.

You have a life to live and enjoy. So hang on to the satisfaction of being a comfortable, healthy weight you can sustain.

Anyway, I have gone on a bit. Sorry. I do try to keep it short, but never seem to manage it.

I wish you lots of good luck in your quest to lose weight. Take good care of yourself. Remember it is possible to achieve your goal. It just takes some time.Health Question & Answer

ive tried alot of things, strict diet, running, workingout, nothing really totally worked... except when i stoped eating so much. honestly i gave that guy a thumbs down for being such an A$$ about it, but its true. i left the country and found myself in europ not eating nearly as much as i did when i was here and i walked around a little every night and i lost like 30 pounds in 3 months. and i wasnt even trying. when i came back i focused to stop eating as much and i worked out every day. im not saying starve yourself but just dont eat more then 1500 cals a day, of GOOD food. not fast food. if your a stay at home mom and dont work and basically stay at home all day your gona have to find like 2 hours a day of working out in the morning for an hour and later in the afternoon for an hour. this will keep your motabalisum going. and its gona make you hungry, just make sure you dont eat alot. find out how much calories everything has that you put in your mouth. make it a hobby to count callories. and keep it under a certin amount. your gona be hungry at first. thats normaly but if your fat you'll be ok if you go hungry for a little bit, it'll take your body a couple weeks to get use to it. but it will. im a 6,4 280 pound guy and im in decent shape. still have like 40 pounds to lose to get down to my goal weight. i have an office job and i only eat around 1400-1600 good cals a day. and im never hungry, sept when i go to sleep. try to run when ever you get the chance. the one thing im doing now are these videos called P90X they are extreme work outs for people who are in shape to get in great shape, these probably arnt for you. but check out the website. they can help you out, vary spacific workouts ment to lose weight. GL Health Question & Answer

When you are losing weight, you should exercise and diet together.
If you exercise without dieting, you will get bigger appetite, which
will lead to increase of weight, or muscle grow
underneath the fat layer, and make you bulkier. If you diet without
exercising, you will become flabby and will have excess skin. For
diet, go wheat free. No pasta, pizza, bread and so on. And no food
after 7 p.m. People achieve marvellous results with it. Depending on
your initial weight, you can drop upwards from 20 pounds a month. If
you don't eat wheat then you don't eat all those sticky, fatty goey
cakes, you don't eat junk food, and you don't eat biscuits. But your
diet is still balanced. It costs nothing, and you do not have to
calculate points or to buy special meals or plans. For exercising,
start with walking, and then switch to running/jogging. Running is the
most efficient and calorie-burn exercise ever. If you are overweight a
lot, walk first or you may have health complications (heart attack,
disjointed bones and so on). Weight lifting is a good means to target
your problem areas for men and women. It's not necessarily to become a
bodybuilder or even join a gym - a couple of dumbbells will help you
to target your problem areas (stomach, butt, legs, arms, chest).Health Question & Answer
