Do you think obesity is a result of people being lazy, and/or not having self control?!

Question: Do you think obesity is a result of people being lazy, and/or not having self control.?
feel free to say what you'd like.
at one point in my life, i was overweight, but i became more disciplined. now i am a semi-vegetarian. i tend to look at the back of labels and such. i walk a lot, do tons of jumping jacks, etc.

i think it is hard to lose weight, but i think self control is a part of it too- i am already genetically predisposed to being bigger- with big bones and such- but i just watch what i eat, and work hard on being small. it isn't easy to be 145 pounds and 5 ft 6.Health Question & Answer

I think that obesity is a result of genetics and poor decisions. I have issues with my weight, as well. My weight problems started after I had a personal crisis. I have never bounced back. I was diagnosed a year ago with hypothyroidism.

My opinion is this...I caused myself to gain the weight because I ate too much and did not exercise enough. The fact that I have problems losing what I have already gained is due to my thyroid. I can fool my thyroid, however. I find that if I eat fewer calories than what I burn in terms of exercise & life I lose weight.

It is funny that all these diet plans come out that reduce fat only or carbohydrates only and do absolutely nothing but make you sick and give you cancer. Ask me about that! I learned that one the hard way. The diet your grandmother followed...counting calories is the only way to be successful in weight loss.

Just remember that any diet that tells you not to eat fruits, vegetables, lean meats, dairy (very important for women), and grains is not a good one. You can lose weight and eat all of this stuff. The trick is to do it within moderation.Health Question & Answer

People haven't changed genetically for thousands of years, yet the percentage of people who are overweight has changed drastically. That tells us it's an environmental thing - less exercise, too much food, more junk food, technology...

Different races and different people have varied metabolisms, ways of laying down fat. Two people can eat an identical diet, do the same activity, but one can get fatter than the other. There has always been people who are larger built than others, but not overweight necessarily. Everyone is designed differently.

However, the vast majority of people can maintain a healthy weight through balanced eating, in the right quantity for them, and enough exercise. People with an abnormally low metabolism are an exception. All of the other overweight people (most of them) have a perfectly normal metabolism, but they're just lazy, claiming they can't help it.

There weren't so many obese people years ago, and our metabolisms were the same. So it's down to peoples' lifestyles today, with the exception of a few cases. =DHealth Question & Answer
