How will getting too much sodium impact me?!

Question: How will getting too much sodium impact me.?
I am 15 almost 16, and I would probably say I get at least two times as much sodium as recommended. Will drinking enough water balance it out.? What will happen to me if I keep this up.?Health Question & Answer

Answers:
basic chemistry my friend, the element sodium (Na) as found in table salt (sodium chloride NaCl) causes your body to retain water. This is good up to a certain point. Too much sodium, causes you to retain too much water. This water has a tendency to build up in the bloodstream causing high blood pressure which is dangerous. High blood pressure is linked to heart attacks and stroke. It can also make you irritable and tired. So drinking more water will not help much unless you are drinking so much that your body has no choice but to urinate out all the extra salt by water alone. This can cause hyper hydration, and brain swelling that can even kill you. So either reduce your sodium intake which I highly recommend, or assist the body with diuretics. (substances that help you shed more water from the body without drinking more water) Most high blood pressure pills fall into this category but must be prescribed by a doctor. Some natural diuretics include caffeine in coffee, tea, diet colas, cucumbers tomatoes, and vinegar. Sadly these are all contain a large amount of water and contribute to the problem. So the best over the counter solution are women's water pills like midol. Be sure to take vitamins and minerals as using diuretics can cause you to deplete those nutrients along with the excess water.Health Question & Answer

Yeah you probably need to drink like a TON of water to counteract it; i ate a lot of salty foods when i was like 13-15 and then last year i found out i had a kidney stone.. (i'm 17 right now sigh lol) so.. drink a lot of fluids if you have a lot of sodiumHealth Question & Answer
