Question: Can't control my eating....?
I need help faaaaaaaaaaast. I'm trying to diet for a long time but i seem to have lost my self control. i can sometimes open the refrigerator and see something, know i shouldn't eat it now, but i eat it anyway.

The main challenge people who wish to conquer binge eating face is knowing how to pinpoint the real source of their hunger. We all have 2 kinds of hunger: a physical hunger which signifies that our body requires food to function properly and an emotional hunger which is driven by our emotions and not by a real necessity.

Binge eaters have a strong emotional hunger and they're helpless before it. The first problem is that the sensation is of a real and penetrating hunger gnawing. It's difficult to tell if it's a physical hunger or an emotional one.

Here are a few tips to see which hunger is upon you:

1. Usually an emotional hunger starts due to some form of emotion or state of mind like stress, boredom, or sadness. Whenever you feel hunger try to see what your emotional state is. If you recognize an emotion which usually precedes a binge eating episode you'll know you don't really need to eat. You'll have a much better chance of stopping.

2. What do you crave - Usually a binge deals with a specific kind of food. Each person has his or her comfort foods. A physical hunger usually doesn't involve craving for a specific food but is a more general desire. If you find yourself craving for a specific food, it may be an emotional hunger. Once you'll be able to identify an emotional hunger you'll be able to conquer overeating.

3. Wait it out - Emotional hunger comes suddenly but can also go away suddenly. A physical hunger stays longer. Whenever you feel hunger try to do something other than eat for 10 minutes. If you're still hungry it's more likely that you're experiencing a physical hunger. If not, you will know that you're not supposed to indulge.

Remember, to conquer binging, you need to be aware. Afterward, you need to start working on what is really causing you to binge, the emotional triggers which are driving you to overeat. It can be done.

If you can, keep high calorie things out of your house. Find a hobby to make you concentrate on something besides food. Drink plenty of water. It's a natural appetite suppressant.
If you ever just can't resist, then work out to burn off the extra calories you consumed.
It all requires discipline...It's tough.

i get the same problem too but i'm lazy so it all works out. Because i go buy things to refill the fridge less often, theres less in the fridge and i have less to snack on >.<Health Question & Answer
