Hmmm....my hubby is a personal trainer and could probably describe this better than I am about to. He has gained over 20 lbs in muscle since we got married in '05. He described body builders as going through cycles. By this he meant they go through a bulking up cycle for X amount of time (several months I think) and took in a LOT of proteins. But he still stayed balanced as far as his meals. Try foods high in protein, like chicken and fish, maybe even some protein shakes (not whey protein, the other kind...whey protein is fast-digesting and is best right after workouts) also, do a lot of strength exercises (cardio too, but only about 30 min 3-5 times a week). The other cycle body builders go through is a leaning cycle which you can worry about later. Let me know if this helps or not. I may be able to ask my hubby to give you some tips if he has the time. I would also recommend reading books on it-Arnold Schwarzenegger has some good ones and I could find a few other goods books for you...Health Question & Answer

Bodybuilders use protein. Protein is the building block of cells, and your muscles are cells. We all use protein for our bodies.

You don't need to specifically take a supplement, but it helps. Just eat a good amount of protein and adjust as your body responds. Health Question & Answer
