Business will vary depending on the geographical location. Some areas will be more into fitness than other areas, hence, seeking out gyms and fitness clubs.
Advertising will directly effect the business the gym receives, however, the actual business is three months behind the actual advertising. The extra $500 in advertising you spend now will not produce results in customers for about three months...on average.

You ( as an owner) can produce more members by offering something to existing memebers if they can bring someone into the gym who becomes a member. Maybe extra time or a discount on their own membership, or even access to something they did not pay for in their membership...perhaps the steam room for one month.

For a gym to encourage clubs will produce memberships also.. such as : bike clubs, weight lifting competitions, tennis / raquet ball club ..etc.

Hours of operation result in memberships..or lack of membership, as the case may be. A gym open from 8:00 Am - 8:00 Pm will be available to non-working persons ( students) as well as the working person. They can stop after work or before work...If the gym is also open on the weekend that is even better. The more accessible the gym is to the public by large, the greater the number of members that gym will have.

For a person looking to join a gym, these are things you want to look for in a gym. Hours of accessibility, clubs of interest, location, parking, and Equipment ( old or newer).
Find out too if Trainers are availble upon request ( probably pay seperate for this).
