You can't spot reduce. It's the biggest myth when it comes to losing fat.

Sit ups work, but only if you're dropping body fat from all over. You cannot spot reduce by only losing weight from one certain area of the body. If you're wanting to lose weight, you have to drop it from all over.

Sit ups or crunches help gain muscle in that area, but all it's going to do is gain muscle under the layer of fat you have on top and you're not going to see a difference.
