ohh my gosh. i was a big sugar addict. I craved it so bad. What helped me was PLAN AHEAD. You will have to trick your mind into thinking it is getting sugar by keeping something pre made that is sugar free. Use sweetener for tea and coffee, get you some sugar free pudding, eat like you are a diabetic. My fathers side has diabetes so I wanted to get a head start on eating like a diabetic to decrease my chances later in life. Guess what I have lost 40 lbs and have kept it off for almost 7 years even after having a kid all because I cut out sugar out of my life. my husband has gained 50 lbs since we met 6 years ago and I am the same weight he met me at despite having his kid 4 years ago. The only thing difference in our eating habits is he eats and drinks cokes and candy and sweets and I drink and eat sugar free things. You do the math.

Oh after about three days you will stop craving sugar as bad unless you are a girl then you will have cravings once a month near the cycle time but plan a head for when those cravings come you will have something sugar free on hand to substitute. Oh when I said to pre make it is because at the last minute you can talk your self into making something that you really like that has sugar but if you already have something pre made or pre planed when that craving hits you, you are less likely to give in. Good luck, way to get healthy, I hope you inspire others also.

Go sugar free. Yeah.Health Question & Answer

Actually, the South Beach Diet is a good way to kick a sugar habit - just because the first phase requires you to avoid ALL sugars - fruit, bread, alcohol, you name it. I'm on my fourth day of the first phase (it lasts 2 weeks if you're following it to lose weight), and I was a MAJOR sugar/carb addict before. The first two days were horrible - I was craving it so badly that I was actually SMELLING sugary things even when there was nothing around. However, today, the fourth day, it's all gone. I'm so pleased. I think my body has finally adjusted to it, and flushed out the excess sugar in my system.

So, that's what I'd recommend for you. 3-4 days with NO sugars whatsoever (you can still have diet sodas, to curb the craving for sweetness and make it seem less 'cold turkey') - stick to lean meats like chicken and fish, TONS of vegetables (but no corn or carrots, as those have sugar), low-fat cheese (but other dairy because it contains lactose...not sure why cheese is allowed, but I don't know the chemical make-up of cheese, so...), nuts. You'll find that it'll be tough, but once you make it past the first two or three days, that addiction's going to be gone. And then you can just resume life as usual.Health Question & Answer
