How long do I have to stay at work today to make it count?!

Question: How long do I have to stay at work today to make it count.?
The roads are very snowy and icy today. Hardly anyone showed up for work. The way they are firing people around here, I didn't want to give them a reason so I hitched a ride with my friend who has an SUV. Now we are at work and we are getting freezing rain, and then supposed to get a couple more inches of snow on top of that. We don't want to stay too long as the roads will be getting worse, but we want to make sure we get our kudos for making the effort. How long should we stay.?Health Question & Answer

It is not necessary that you have to stay longer, but as you have said that hardly anyone has showed up. Call your superior and ask his advice telling him about the situation and hardly anyone showed up. Leave it to him to decide how long you should wait, It is but natural that seeing the situation he will tell you to leave and your purpose will be served.Health Question & Answer

Stay for a few hours but do a lot of work, accomplishh something. But let your boss know that you are there working and that othersaren'tt, do itsubtlyy, and let him know that you came in even tho the roads are bad. Say things like aren'tt those roads bad they were like that when i was on my way in" and also "I have noticed that theredon'tt seem to be many people here" or some things like that. If he see's that then he will know that you are morecommittedd that the others. Which will make it a less chance for you to get fired.Health Question & Answer

If you have personal/sick time to leave then take it. As long as you have time to cover it, you're fine. If you don't have any sick time/personal time then you're going to have to stick it out until work is over. They have no obligation to let you off work early for slick road conditions, UNLESS there is a state of emergency issued. And I doubt one has been issued because the weather would have to get really bad. Worse than it is now.Health Question & Answer

Talk with your immediate supervisor and inquire as to if they are releasing people early due to the inclement weather. He/she will be able to best inform you and will remember you for your directness. Don't phrase it as "can I leave early", but "do you know if they are going to be sending people home early due to the weather".Health Question & Answer

uh, work or safety, work or safety, I think your life comes first. You don't want to put yourself in a situation where you're not safe driving home. I'd check the temp and make sure that it's above freezing outside. The minute the temp drops you should leave and get your butt home. there is no vehicle on the road that can maneuver in ice, unless your friend has skates in place of wheels on his SUV.LOL!

You showing up and giving an effort is enough if you ask me. I wish there were more people like you. Maybe our economy wouldn't be so screwed up:-)Health Question & Answer

I always just left at lunch time when I worked day shift. I actually skipped class today due to bad weather. My kids had a 2 hr delay but my school didnt...the only one in the freakin county with no delay..so I had to stay with the kids. Kiss Millie for me... and stay safe. Millie needs you!Health Question & Answer

I'm in the same boat only our freezing rain isn't supposed to hit until noon, so i can at least get a half day in, but once it's starts icing, really they should give you an option to leave without pay or something, no job is worth your life!Health Question & Answer

ask were they keep the cots and stay over night. make sure you talk smack about anyone who didn't show up to work due to the weather...call them "unprofessional, unappreciative employees".kissing butt is the only way to get ahead...or just give some.Health Question & Answer

Look for some type of policy your company has about inclement weather. What part of the country are your from.? If its a place where you don't get this type of weather often, most likely they would be sympathetic to your situation...Health Question & Answer

I am in the same dilemma. I work for the city and they only shut this place down if they declare a state of emergency. I think four hours looks legitimate. Good luck and be safe! (164 was a nightmare this morning)Health Question & Answer
