I actually calculated your Body Mass Index (BMI) for you. Your BMI determines if you are in a healthy weight range and allows you to set goals for how much weight you should lose to achieve that healthy weight loss goal. According to your BMI is 28.7, which means that you are in the overweight range. For your height, you should be between 134 and 173 pounds. You will have to determine where in range you fit based on your body frame and size.

I also calculated your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) to give you a general idea of how many calories you should be eating in a day. According to your BMR you need to eat 2518 calories to maintain your current weight. You should try to cut that number down by 500-1000 calories depending on what the original number is. Remember males should not go below 1500 calories a day.

The most important thing is to make sure that you eat plenty of foods that are high in fiber and low in fat, sugar, sodium, and calories. These foods are also supposed to help sustain you and keep you from being hungry.

These foods include:

1. Fat free or low-fat dairy products
2. Fruits and vegetable
3. Lean protein
4. Whole grains

You may also want to take a daily multivitamin to ensure that you are taking in enough of the vitamins and minerals your body needs.

In addition, the experts recommend that you get at least thirty minutes of physical activity on most days of the week. This can be divided into three ten-minute sessions a day, not including warm-up and cool-down time. Your heart rate should increase and you should break a sweat during your workout sessions. In addition, you should try to do strength training three days a week, or every other day (such as weight lifting) Try to focus of exercises that will have minimal impact on your knee. Im not exactly sure how bad your knee is but some general suggestions could be walking, light jogging, bike riding (which is excellent), and there are also exercise DVDs that would cater to your needs.

If you follow these guidelines, you will lose weight and you can expect to become healthier. You will lose body fat and gain lean muscle mass. This will help you become leaner, keep your metabolism up so that you do not gain weight, and you will be healthier overall. Your weight is just a number, but your health should be your overall goal.

Best of luck!!Health Question & Answer

There are lots of things you can do even with a bad knee! As far as losing weight, you should be doing cardio for 30 minutes to an hour b/c that's actually when the body starts using its stored fat for energy. You can do things like walking, it's one of the most popular ways to exercise, and it's really easy! You can also walk in shallow water as it burns more calories. You can still use your bike, and you can swim! All really great options. also if you join a gym they have tons of Equipment to choose from & they have personal trainers that can help you develop a plan.

You can also be doing things to build your muscular strength, like sit ups, so you decrease your fat and build up your muscles, and also work on your flexibility! Flexibility prevents injuries, so it's extremely important especially for someone w/a bad knee!

And then as far as your diet, if you want to lose weight you need to be burning more calories than you're using, so watch what you're eating.

also I wouldn't pay attention to the BMI charts. They are not accurate because they can't measure what type of weight you have. If someone is extremely muscular but small, they could be considered obese. So don't worry about those charts.Health Question & Answer

Don't go hungry! That puts your body into starvation mode, slows your metabolism, and causes your body to hold on to fat.

Don't use diet pills, they are dangerous and don't address the root problem. It was not the lack of pills that got you heavy, their addition is not the fix you need.

What you need to do is eat simple and natural foods. Follow "The Asian Diet". If you eat like the Asians, you will look like the Asians (thin); when they eat like us, they look like us (not thin). You don't have to eat Asian food, just follow the principles that these cultures have arrived at after thousands of years of experimentation, observation, and documentation.

Eat mostly vegetables, mostly cooked (salads and cold and raw foods slow digestion and metabolism), mostly fresh and local, a little bit of meat, no dairy, simple and natural foods (more rice, less bread and pasta).

Don't worry about calories, fat, carbs, or any other component of food. In Asia, they look at the whole food. Avoid processed foods and anything labeled "diet".

"The Asian Diet: simple secrets for eating right, losing weight and being well" by Bussell explains the diet and the principles.
"The Asian Diet: get slim and stay slim the Asian way" by Tran has recipes that adhere to the principles.
"The China Study" by Campbell has the science behind the principles.

Good luck. You also should get some exercise every day, and don't always do the same exercises but mix it up. Follow the principles of balance and moderation and you'll be fine.Health Question & Answer

can you swim.? swimming is good exercise because it works out the whole body :] i don't know if weight training will help you lose weight, but it'll help you change your fat to muscle. maybe changing your diet would be a good idea too. but whatever you do, don't stop eating breakfast, you don't need to eat too much for dinner, but definitely eat breakfast, it'll speed up your metabolism so you digest faster.Health Question & Answer

Well they're are many diets out there. They say that you should eat up to 6 meals a day. Smaller meals.

Breakfast
-Snack
Lunch
-Snack
Dinner
-Snack

In between all of the main meals have a small healthy snack so that you never get hungry and crave food that isn't healthy for you.

Some foods are even "Negative Calorie Foods". For example broccoli. After eating broccoli it takes more energy chewing and digesting this food than there is. Per say a couple stems of broccoli is 80 calories after eating it and digesting it you would burn 120 calories.

So just consider that whenever you go to think about what you would like to snack on or what vegetable you want with your dinner they're are a lot of "Negative Calorie" foods. *REMEMBER adding a lot of butter and salt will make the negative foods not negative anymore..and salt keeps in water which puts on more water weight.*

Now for exercise I personally go to the gym 3 days a week to lift. But if you are trying to loss weight and gain muscle I would go lifting 3 days a week and every other day I'm not lifting I would go do cardio like the treadmill or a stationary bike at the gym.

Mon. - Lift
Tues. - Cardio
Wens. - Lift
Thurs. - Cario
Fri. - Lift
Sat. - Cardio
Sun. - Rest

Now if you do decide to do something like that remember to change up your lifting here is what I do.

Mon. - Chest / Bi
Wens. - Back / Tri
Fri. - Legs / Shoulders (then volleyball with friends for 2 hours)

That is a little harder on your muscles so I would start out doing opposite muscle groups.

Mon. - Chest / Back
Wens - Bi / Tri
Fri. Legs / Shoulders

Like for example on monday I would do...

3 Chest exercises 3 Back - 3 Sets of 10 reps. If you want further details e-mail me at Knightdefender03@hotmail or on here TwilightObsession@Yahoo.comHealth Question & Answer

Ride your bike as much as you can. And just littler portions of your meals, and eat healthier meals. Don't stress your self out over it. Just stay motivated.
