Exercising question...........?!

Question: Exercising question............?
So I know running before and after you do exercises like crunches, lunges, etc is probably the best because it gets your heart rate up and helps you burn off more fat and calories while you do the exercises. My question is, is it worth it to do just the exercises.? Some days I really don't want to run, and I just want to do crunches, lunges and stuff like that, but is it worth it.? Will I really do very much for my body.?Health Question & Answer

You will be much better off NOT running before or after the 'shaping' exercises that you mention. You will probably do higher quality work if you haven't begun to fatigue yourself with running before you start.

The quality of your running will also improve if the session is focussed on this activity alone. Some variety in the session can be useful, if you mix some 'plyometric' work, some 'stepping drills' and some speedwork, for example, but changing to a completely different exercise is almost always counterproductive.

'Getting your HR up' WILL NOT help to burn more fat. Fat is ONLY burned by GENTLE movements! Higher intensities only burn extra SUGAR; the two fuels are NOT interchangeable.

Exercises are SPECIFIC. Static 'rep & set' exercises will strengthen & tone specific bodyparts, which cannot be targeted by 'whole-body' activities like running or rowing.

With 'time-based' exercises, you are mainly using the largest muscles to stimulate bloodflow. This causes your heart to work harder, so that it can benefit from a 'training effect'.

Some activities, such as Parkour, Climbing, or Capoeira, will stimulate your Cardiovascular System (heart & blood vessels) AND local groups of 'skeletal muscles'. Many people find these activities less boring than either 'endurance' exercises such as running, or 'toning' exercises such as crunches & lunges etc.

Dividing your fitness regime into 'outdoor sessions' (long-distance, cv) and 'indoor sessions' (mat, weight, & equipment work), might help to focus & motivate you.

Doing each type of session in turn would be fine, and if you are feeling energetic then you could mix the activities in an extended session.

Swimming before a gym session can be a good idea, as long as you swim gently, because this can relax and loosen your muscles. Running afterwards (again, gently) can also help with the 'cooldown' process.Health Question & Answer

Well anything you do cardio wise is good for your body, running before may help a little but thats just adding a little to what is already really good, so yes its worth it even if you dont want to run.Health Question & Answer
