When I was young and I had an ear infection, my mom would soak a cotton ball in olive oil and then put it in my ear. Not all the way down, just at the entrance to the ear so that it would block wind from getting in there and hurting it.

I don't know what the olive oil did, but it always seemed to work within a day or two.

As far as a stuffed up nose, I suggest peppers. Hot as you can stand them. This works on two counts.

One, it burns all that mess out of there; your nose will be running but it will clear out the mucus.

Two, it will cause pain in your tongue, which will induce a response by your body to produce endorphins (your body's natural painkiller). Endorphins will stay in your blood for a while, and start cutting down pain all over your body, including your ear, nose, and probably throat (you didn't say, but it's all interconnected so I assume it hurts, too).Health Question & Answer
