Pancreatic Cancer can quite painful. As a nurse for over 20 years I can tell you from experience it can be very bad. The patches are to keep a constant flow of pain drugs going into his system all the time. But he also needs a different pain medication prescription for what is called "Break Through" pain.

It's possible that he needs to have higher dose patches to control his pain all the time but he should also have break through pain meds for when he has more pain than usual. By taking some pills, usually of a different type of pain medication, he can then control his pains when they suddenly get worse than normal. also... medications such as anti anxiety pills help. A LOT. When people know they are hurting and dying they are naturally upset and anxious. Something to help relax the mind goes a long way to also helping reduce the pain experience.Health Question & Answer

I'll go along with Alice RN and agree that he needs a different type of pain killer, if it's a cancer, even morphine would help temporarily. Then the doctor can asses him. Whether he likes doctors or not, he's going to have to adjust to them or suffer in pain. He really has no choice like he isn't going to get well, he just wants the pain to stop.Health Question & Answer
