What does medical insurance cover in US?!

Question: What does medical insurance cover in US.?
Do you still have to pay for trips to the Doctors and prescriptions or is just emergency or operations onlyHealth Question & Answer

Answers:
health insurance in the US is woefully inadequate, you have to make co-payments to the doctors for office visits, you have to make co-payments for medicines, there are annual deductibles that run to the thousands of dollars and until those are paid, insurance pays nothing, there are high co-payments for emergency visits and hospital stays, and then insurance only covers 80% of "allowable" charges, meaning they will only pay 80% of what THEY think a test or procedure should cost, not at all what it actually costs. For instance, I had an CT scan with contrast, the bill was 1500 dollars, the insurance said it should only cost 300 and they paid 80% of that 300, leaving me to pay over a thousand dollars for that test. (in addition to the ridiculous monthly installment I have to pay to have the insurance in the first place.) It's like insurance companies don't live in the real world, they only pay what they want to pay and nothing more, no wonder so many people don't have or WANT insurance, it costs more than it is worth.Health Question & Answer

Depends on what kind of insurance you have, and what your specific plan covers. Usually there is a co-pay for all doctor visits and meds, and they cover a % of the cost of major operations and ER visits. The % varies from plan to plan.Health Question & Answer

It all depends on your plan. My insurance (Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey) pays for what they feel like. I end up having to spend countless hours on the phone arguing with them just to get my bills paid. It's so sad how these insurance companies are ripping people off left and right. We need national health care in the U.S. but I highly doubt that will ever happen. The government is making money off of us by having individual health care.Health Question & Answer
