Had an op now i got a weird feeling????????/?!

Question: Had an op now i got a weird feeling.?.?.?.?.?.?.?.?/.?
i had an op to remove my salavairy gland because it had 3 stones in it.
before surgery i had a lump the size of a glof ball just underneath my jaw.

anyway i had the operation at 2pm yesterday (21/01/09) and now i cant feel anybody touch the skin on my jaw, its all numb

so what i wanted to know is this normal.? (because of the iodine or general anaesthetic or something.?) im just a bit worried because the doctor said that the operation could cause me to loose feeling in my tongue, i just wondered if that had happened but on the outside of my face (the cut was made on the outside too not the inside of my mouth)

thanks

It's still a little early in the healing process to be able to say what is happening. The face is a pretty sensitive area to work on, and lots of odd things happen when you do. There are lots of nerves and lots of blood supply, and prior to the surgery you had a fair amount of swelling and pressure on all of it. The surgery itself adds to the irritation in the area as well. It will probably take a couple more days before things settle down enough to know much else, but I suspect it will turn out just fine. You have movement in the tongue, evidently- and that's actually the thing they are most concerned about. Your incision should have been made from the underside of the jaw, on the affected side, which is actually not much risk to the main nerve supply. So I think you really just have a swollen, irritated jaw that needs to repair itself. If it really has you worried, just give the doctor a call and ask. But from what you say, it does sound like a normal postoperative reaction, honestly.Health Question & Answer

I would recommend calling your surgeon. Generally speaking, anytime the skin is cut during surgery the nerve endings are cut also. When there is an interruption in the nerve endings, there is numbness. I had some abdominal surgery 2 1/2 yrs ago and still can't feel a part of the skin on my abdomen. Please call your surgeon to make sure.Health Question & Answer

It may be best that you contact your doctor or whoever did the surgery. That's the only way that you'll find out what's going on.

Good luck :)Health Question & Answer
