Yes. For me bad breath had nothing to do with my tongue. The tongue is a carrier, not the producer of the bacteria. All of the bacteria was collecting in my forever infected tonsils -- chronic fetid tonsillitis. also, many, many ENT's and GP's don't understand this. When I pressed on my tonsil white liquid like milk would come out. Now that the tonsils are gone, bad breath is gone and my tongue is pink without cleaning it. I had to lie about my tonsils being infected to the point of needing antibiotics seven times a year to get the surgery. However, the bad breath from the tonsils was completely and utterly devastating my life. Dr's don't care about or understand this. My tonsils were clearly infected, just not to the point of needing antibiotics. ENT's really truly don't get this. Mine still doesn't. Bad breath from this problem will never be solved with apples or Listerine. It is an infection! People would not tolerate this problem in any other part of the body. The bad breath is saying something about what is happening in your body and it is BAD. So, I would say that this IS the most legitimate reason to have a tonsillectomy in addition to the detrimental effects in every area of you life that bad breath has.Health Question & Answer
From watching the talk show, "The Doctors," I believe it does. Tonsils collect bacteria becaue they are a part of your immune system, and an acummulation of bacteria causes bad breath. Although, I don't think you are supposed to do it JUST for bad breath if that's what you're thinking. Apples decrease bad breath as well as products like Listerine.Health Question & Answer
