What else should I do to treat this puncture wound?!

Question: What else should I do to treat this puncture wound.?
I was outside in my yard, playing with my dogs. There was this board with long nails sticking up out of it.. yes, the old, rusty kind. The dogs, on one of their bored days while I was at work, tore this chunk of wood from a pillar in my carport. Anyway, not having thrown it away yet, I managed to step squarely on one of the nails. It went through my sneaker and way up into my foot (the ball of my foot just under my big toe). I am up to date on my tetanus shot, so I did not go in for one.
I did try to force it to bleed (as a puncture wound, it did not readily bleed without my squeezing it). I also poured hydrogen peroxide into it several times, then covered the hole with a Band-aid. That was around 5pm (Friday). Now, the whole area on my foot hurts.. esp. my big toe. It's hard to bend my big toe at all and it feels like a knife stabbing the bottom of my foot. What else can I do at home to treat this.? Do you think I might need an antibiotic.? Thanks.Health Question & Answer

Answers:
Go to the Dr.! Go to the hospital if you can. If it is infected you need a antibiotic shot and pills to follow up with. Better safe than sorry with this, a topical antibiotic cream will not do any good once a infection reaches your bloodstream. The Dr. will be able to determine if it is infected. If it is red around the area, has pus, and you have a red line on your foot or leg go to the hospital.Health Question & Answer

Puncture wounds are notorious for being painful, so you can expect some agony for a few days. Cleaning it regularly with hydrogen peroxide should get rid of any contaminants, but I'd use an over-the-counter antibiotic before applying a Band-Aid. Neosporin makes an antibiotic with pain reliever as one of the ingredients and I've used that for years. Good luck!Health Question & Answer

Go to doctor as soon as possible. There are more things out there than just tetanus. Hydrogen peroxide may or may not do any good.

The band-aid is not good, it keeps the wound moist. Use dry gauze and first aid tape to maintain an airway.

Standard antibiotic is metronidazole or erythromycin. Still see a doctor.
You may still need a booster for the tetanus.Health Question & Answer
