What will ease my knee pain?!

Question: What will ease my knee pain.?
First a little history.... 12 years ago, I was sitting on the floor, when I stood up I heard a tear and my right knee was in horrible pain. Went to a doctor and it turned out that I tore some ligaments. I had to be on crutches for 6 weeks and wear a knee brace for 10 weeks. Since then I have heard a tearing sound two other times, had to wear knee braces those times too. I have sprained my knee once or twice also. All the right knee.
Tonight I stood up from a couch and used my right leg to push the leg rest down (like a recliner but in a couch) and I felt a snap and now my knee is hurting. It has been such a long time that I can't remember how the pain felt before. But this time I feel stinging and burning in my mid-kneecap. It hurts to be touched and it hurts when I step down.
Is there anything I can do to help it.? Or to stop my knee from getting injured so easily.? I mean come on, I stand up and the ligaments tear. That is ridiculous right.?Health Question & Answer

I have experienced 3 decades of knee pain in both knees, but not of the particular type you're suffering from. I basically did two things, neither of which were quick fixes, but were fixes nonetheless:

1. I lost weight. 20 pounds from your body core makes life so much easier on your knees and hips and ankles. You may have to exercise those joints to get the weight down, so do so lightly and gently.

2. I take 2,000 mg of glucosamine every day, a pill in the morning and a pill at night. Over a period of 6 to 8 months I started to notice that my knee joints didn't ache as bad, and after another period of 6 months, they ached not at all. Glucosamine is scoffed at in some medical circles here in the U.S. as an untested drug. But my GP and a surgeon who did a little arthroscopic surgery on one knee both suggested I continue taking it.

I have long standing knee problems too. My right knee as well, i know all about ligaments tearing!! Take Advil (or any anti inflammatory)every 4-6 hrs or as needed keep an Ice pack (with a Towel around it) for 15-20 minutes, and then a heating pad for the same amount of time. Keep your leg elevated, and try not to use it, if you have to put your brace on!! Do this for a few days, if all else fails go to the doctor.

Hope I helped!Health Question & Answer

You may have some kind of chronic knee or kneecap instability, that keeps showing up. It would be a good idea to have someone who is skilled with orthopedic (bone and joint) problems evaluate you.
Physical therapists are health professionals who specialize in optimizing a patient's movement. Go to APTA.org, click on "find a PT" and search by zip code. You may want to consult a PT who is a board-certified specialist in orthopedics (OCS after their name).

spray a little WD 40 on the knee,it works for meHealth Question & Answer

Well it seems to me that you have a easily moveable patella which is your knee bone that is surrounded by tendons. Often times, when you have patella dysfunction your kneecap can slide laterally(side to side) when you bend or straighten your knee. Such as you were doing when you pushed the recliner down with you leg causing your leg to flex at the knee. This can not only be painful in a physical sense, but it can really bother you mentally when this happens especially if you know you have dealt with this before. What I would recommend is wearing a knee brace of some sort to prevent any further damage to your ligaments which support your patella (knee) bone. If you experience a feeling as though the knee is slipping from side to side, you can benefit from wearing a patella stabilization brace. The braces work by surrounding the patella area and keeping the knee in place during many different kinds of movements. Often times there is a dynamic strap that will help prevent lateral migration of your patella.
Other kinds of injuries can easily occur to the knee such acl tear, mcl tears, or meniscus tears. Knee supports can also help with these kinds of issues. Once the fibers of these ligaments or cartilage begin to tear, it can quickly lead to more severe tears and be very painful. Wearing an appropriate knee support can help keep the knee stable. In the mean time, I would consume some ginger and ibuprofen of some sort in/with your food to keep inflammation down if there is any in your knee area. Put some ice on it and prevent any sudden unnecessary movements that cause you to flex your knee.Health Question & Answer
