Very odd experience, what could it be?!

Question: Very odd experience, what could it be.?
Hi,

Been having bad headaches on and off for about a week now. Today I took a long, hot shower and right in the middle of it I had those flashes as if I was staring in a light for too long, my ears began to ring and I couldn't balance myself correctly. I then got out, drank some water and felt as if I was going to throw up. Today was the first time I had this feeling, possibly because I didn't eat anything at all today. But, I've been having bad headaches for a little while, I guess they may be related.

I take about two advils every other or 3rd day and that usually solves the problem for a little. My hunch is that I haven't been drinking enough water. Combined with cigarettes I guess this is why I get these headaches.Health Question & Answer

Hiya

OK the symptoms that are kind of alarming to me are...flashing lights, dizziness, nausea, headaches.

Now a lack of fluid can present some odd symptoms, but flashing lights isn't one of them.

What I think you are describing is either a CVA or TIA.

CVA = Cerebral Vascular Aneurysm...pretty serious and could kill you in seconds. The fact that you haven't said that tastes and smells are bothering you kind of leads me to think that this isn't what's going on.

TIA = Transient Ischemic Attack...which is a mini stroke. Now here's what could be contributing to this. Lack of fluid is an issue here, as the blood becomes thicker and eventually you will start to manufacture clots (especially if you are immobile) and smoking. Smoking is a bad thing all round when it comes to your vascular system, which also adds to CVA as it goes.

TIA's are just what they sounds like, transient. They don't last long, and people generally recover from them as quickly as they happen. They are very disorienting and feel like the mother of all brain farts.

OK, now if by "those flashes" you mean you could barely see, became dizzy and nearly fell over. That's a drop in BP (blood pressure), and that's actually not a big deal. We all get that from time to time if we stand for too long, and if we don't eat and hydrate enough. So, if you didn't see white flashes or arcs of light...then this paragraph is your golden answer. You very likely let your blood sugar drop and when you jumped into a hot shower....the temperature shocked your system (shock is a drop in blood pressure and can happen for any reason at any time).

The headaches are likely due to being dehydrated.
