How can I minimize my 2nd degree burn scar?!
Question: I fell over the fireplace poker and got a nasty second degree burn to my shoulder about 2 inches long. It hurts and I work for the hospital so I got great meds to help it heal. But I was wondering....are there any over the counter meds that will help minimize the scar when it heals? Does Mederma work as good as it says?

Mederma is slow acting.....try getting Vitamin E capsules, opening them and using the contents on the scar....works every time!
get an aloe vera plant and use the gel straight from the inside of the leaf. use it often. It really worked on my arm, there is no scar at all!
Arnica or Vitamin E work well on scars... and they are natural!
Vitamin E is better for burn scars.
I too had bad burn scars (I chicken-fried my hands - accidentally, of course.) I used silvadene (sp) forever and have no scars - it is a prescription but worth every penny. I scar very easily but this works and I keep some on hand at all times. Make sure you are not allergic to sulfur though.
Maderma works pretty good, but you will have to wait for the wound to heal before you can start using it.
In ayurveda there is one small recommendation. Mix a teaspoon of pure cow ghee with a pinch of good quality turmeric. Apply once a day at night. Any burning scar will disappear. Take care as clothes do get stain. It is proven and the example is my own brother got his hand burned with a fire cracker during Deepavali (India, festival of lights)
the cheaps and best way to clear it up is buy vitamin e tablets bust them open and rub it on the scare it will take about three weeks but it works it worked on my third degree
I was going to suggest Mederma. You could also try any one of a number of preparations with cocoa butter.
