Is it okay to take Advil and Nyquil together?!
Question: Is it okay to take Advil and Nyquil together.?
I'm sick and in pain. I took the Nyquil about 3 hours ago, and that's doing all right with the sick part, but isn't doing a damned thing for the pain. Am I okay to take a couple of Advil and try to get some sleep, or should I use Tylenol, or what.?

Hello there,
Generally speaking, taking Advil ( which contains pain reliever -ibuprofen ) would not interfere with the effect of Nyquil ( which is a cold medicine ) . However , depends on what type of Nyquil you are taking. If it is the Nyquil that concentrates on treating coughing only , it likely does not contain acetaminophen. As Nyquil is created to cure conciousness , lol almost all of them types would contain succinate ( an antihistamine , hypnotic ) for nasal congestion and acetaminophen. Tylenol contains acetaminophen ( or paracetamol ) which would be a little harsh on your liver if taken in conjunction with nyquil . The general rule of application of acetaminophen is 4 grams/ day or about 60 milligrams per kilo body per 24 hours. Overdose of paracetamol could lead to acute liver failure.
Advil is a new type of drugs that contain ibuprofen which is considered more modern and better ( for now ) than paracetamol and aspirin alone and it has widely used to replace those two.
I would recommend use to use a stronger type of ibuprofen which contains codeine 4 which is a very strong pain reliever and available over the counter and try to get some sleep naturally. But mixing both of them together I would not suggest. Consult a GP first , or just go to the chemist ( pharmacy ) and ask them if it is wise to use both. Tylenol already contains some pain reliever in it which is acetaminophen, but ibuprofen is more effective in pain relieving.Health Question & Answer
