About a week and a half ago I got what I assumed was a bug bite just above my ankle. Since that time it has morphed into what resembled a boil (when rubbed it produced pus, though later when I tried to lance it it just produced blood), and then to what it is now - a sore in the middle of a dark red area about the size of two half dollars, rock hard and warm to the touch. I'm thinking about calling my Dr. tomorrow and asking for a prescription for antibiotics; I just want to make sure it doesn't sound like anything more pressing than that.Health Question & Answer

It could be erysipelas. This is a subcutaneous infection with Streptococci. This can potentially be serious and you should see a doctor for intravenous antibiotics treatment.
Another thing: What kind of bug has bitten you.? When it was a tick you should be concerned about erythema migrans and Lyme disease.
