Why has the piercing at the top of my ear swollen up after 3 weeks?!

Question: Why has the piercing at the top of my ear swollen up after 3 weeks.?

i had my ear pierced at the top, for the second time, different ear. I had it done at a proper piercing place. But after 3 weeks of it being fine, and being washed twice a day, its swollen right up and is causing me alot of pain, like its just been done. I really dont want to lose it.?
Any ideas.?

infection can occur anytime. even after 20 years I still get an occational infection in pierced ears. there might be something that got lodged in there. call the piercing place and ask them for advise. they should be able to tell you what to do. Health Question & Answer

maybe you got an infection... or do you know if you are allergic to the metal of the ear-ring you have been putting in your ear.? did you get a new earring and it was a different metal.? if so see a doctor and be more careful of what goes into your ear....Health Question & Answer

If its red it might be an infection try the claires ear piercing antiseptic or you probably not but might have a hematoma which is when its filled up with liquid so if the ear doesn't deswell after a few weeks go to your doctor.Health Question & Answer
