Ongoing health problems since i stopped smoking..........has anyone else had the same?!

Question: Ongoing health problems since i stopped smoking..........has anyone else had the same.?
gave up smoking 4 months ago after 30 years of smoking

i am still getting bouts of tiredness in the day and usually sleep an hour or so in the middle of the day.......i feel lethargic in general and feel weak even though i have a good strong physique
i am also still getting bloated with trapped wind and still have occasional diarrhoea
i have put on 12lbs since giving up smoking and have been to the doctors twice but he just says its just side effects of giving up smoking
but i am not so sure

has anybody else had a similar experience after giving up smoking or tell me what may be the problem.thanksHealth Question & Answer

I packed up a year ago after 20 years or so of smoking and have never been so ill in my life.Constantly something wrong with me, ear infection, colds, sore throat, knackered all the time, breathless. Your symptoms could be due to other things though such as irritable bowel syndrome or coeliac disease, intolerance to wheat, gluten and sometimes oats. There again if you are gaining weight i would think you are just suffering from withdrawal symptoms. also maybe you are eating more and your body has to get used to the extra intake. Anyway, well done on giving up.Health Question & Answer

I have quit smoking for the second time in a year. I feel tired, but I think it's from the Chantix. Both times I have had problems with shortness of breath. When I did smoke for 4 months, I had no problems at all. I really can't explain it and neither can my doctor. I just hope it gets better with time.Health Question & Answer

30 years of smoking wrecks your metabolism. It's likely to take a year to sort itself out.

Your problem sounds like a sugar imbalance. Have you switched from cigarettes to sweets.? Try starting the day with porage (no sugar - try it with cinnamon), and eat fruit if you feel peckish between meals.Health Question & Answer

Go back to the doctor's and ask for blood tests. Smoking has been known to keep you from realizing that you have and illness, then when you quit the symptoms start showing. I quit after 15 years of smoking and discovered a major thyroid problem (also felt terrible instead of better). Health Question & Answer

I suffered all manner of strange symptoms when I stopped smoking but they gradually tailed-off over some months. I regarded them as part of the addiction. It was as though the addiction had a life of its own inside me and would try any trick in the book to get me back on the cigarettes. You know the kind of thoughts ... 'Just one can't hurt' or 'If I feel this bad, how can smoking make me feel any worse.?'. I had not smoked for as long as you but still found it hard to give up. Actually, the only way I could do it was by not 'giving up' but by deferring my next cigarette until I was willing to admit to being beaten by a burning stick of rolled-up vegetation. So far, I've managed 25 years without giving in.

I too gained weight but that was because I replaced one bad habit, smoking, with another, snacking.

Hang in there, my friend. It requires massive mental discipline not to give in to the last death-throws of a nasty addiction.Health Question & Answer
