In my case, taking certain medicines don't help at all then I end up regurgitiating the medicine. The only one that works for me is Aleve...it's like the pain was never there.
Heating pads will work also.
My family is from Panama, and they are really big on herbs, not man-made medicine. If you have a local health food store, try buying a tea called 'Burdock Root'...that should knock the pain out.Health Question & Answer

If my memory is correct, the NSAIDs like ibuprofen came on the market in the early 1980s. My patients with menstrual cramps were greatly relieved with these meds with relatively few exceptions. They were a great therapeutic breakthrough. A previous responder got a Thumbs Down for this answer. My experience was very favorable.
But cramping with the first period is worrisome. An experienced physician can do a gyn exam on a teenage girl with a minimum of discomfort. I would recommend such an exam if NSAIDs are ineffective and the pain is monthly. I know it is common practice to give oral contraceptives for such problems, but I think the teen should have an exam first. That's my bias. Health Question & Answer

A heating pad helps a lot and I know she is only 13 and this might be winging it... you don't have to tell her what it is but its birth control, obviously the pill form. My friend had the same problems and she went on birth control, it relieved her of everything. Health Question & Answer
