People can start developing migraines at any age. I started getting them when I was around your age so it must not be all that uncommon.

I don't know what your current treatment plan is but I would recommend starting to keep a food journal. Many foods have been scientifically proven to induce migraines and when you see the pattern it's easy to identify them. Look at this website to identify the foods you should avoid:

Get a lot of exercise and rest when you are in the migraine cycle and try to take it easy and remember to breathe.

I also take Imitrex (doctor prescribed) when I get migraines and it really helps, as does Excedrin Migraine.

I hope this helps, migraines are horrible!!Health Question & Answer

I had my first few migraines when I was around 12. My mom never got migraines, I inherited them from my Dad's mom (thanks Grandma!) Anyway, at 11 or 12, I didn't even know what it was. Because of the aura (the blotchy vision thing) I thought there was something wrong with my eyes, so my mom brought me to the eye doctor! LOL

Anyway, migraines are often triggered by hormonal changes therefore early teens is a typical starting time. Definately, talk to your pediatrician. You need to find out what medication would be safe for someone your age. You'll get lots of good information and find out you are not the only young teen with migraines. I found migraines to be a bit of problem in high school and college because a couple of times one started during a test and due to the vision-problem I had a hard time reading the test questions. At that time, they were so infrequent, I didn't carry Advil in my purse. Advil usually works for me, I need to take it right away for best results.Health Question & Answer

Well, it's hardly "okay" but migraine can strike at any age.
You should be under a doctor for treatment and to find out if these are truly migraine attacks or if they have some other physiological cause.

Faulty vision, undiagnosed can often give these symptoms and be alleviated by either corrective lenses or in some cases minor surgery.

Don't self-diagnose, get a doctor to give you a battery of neurological tests to confirm the root cause. Health Question & Answer

Having a migrane is never ok no matter what your age is. Anyone can get them regardless of how common or uncommon it is. Get your parents to take you to the doctors, tell them that you're really concerned and you're just not feeling well and tell the doctors your symptoms. You may have them, or you could have something else. It can be a serious problem if you don't get to the doctor. Some parents go into a denial stage when their kids get sick, it does happen sometimes but dont' give up. Go to your school nurse and talk it out with her, and get her to call your parents and recommend them taking you to get checked out. Good luck and I hope you can get it staightened out.Health Question & Answer

After puberty, about three times as many girls and women get migraines compared with boys and men.

For many girls and women, migraines tend to happen around the start of their period, probably due to hormone changes.

It seems that more people may be getting migraine now than 20 years ago. It has been suggested that this is because of increasing exposure to things that can trigger migraine.
