Answers:
You go to your family Doctor and you tell them your symptoms. Then they refer you to a specialist. At some point if he/she has not already had an MRI that would be the next logical course of action to see if there is any major problem.

XRays, MRI's, etc. can NOT image pain. They are just one more tool.

There are many specialists that would be considered depending on the problem. Anything from Massage Therapy, Physical Therapy, Neurologist, Othopedic Surgeon, etc.

The problem with Chiropractors is all they can do is "adjust" a joint. And while there may be some benefit to some, continually adjusting a joint over and over that does not result in any improvement is both a waste of money and time, but has the potential to make the problem worse.

Chiropractors are not licensed to dispense medication, which is good and bad. But it really means that they market their services like a dentist insisting you come back over and over. That's how they make money.Health Question & Answer

Suggest that your friend research and locate a chiropractor who uses an electric "Activator". There is no manipulation of the joints, and the method used lasts far longer. There should be no reason to visit three times a week after the first couple of weeks, but those two weeks are important in restoring balance and blood flow to the affected areas.
Otherwise, your friend should see an ostopathic doctor, but this would be a last resort.Health Question & Answer

tell your friend to go see an orthopedic dr. i have a bad disk in my back and i went to see my orthopedic dr to find out the trouble with my back and i have to go get a MRI done on friday and have PT til I go see my dr next monthHealth Question & Answer

Always, always do alternate therapy first unless you have some sort of paralysis. Surgery should always be the last resort. If you go to a neurosurgeon, you can bet that he will want to cut. You are really rolling dice with any back surgery. If you do, contact your state medical board and see if any complaints have been registered concerning your surgeon Most of the time compressed disk pain can be elevated through some sort of traction.
I recommend an inversion table and begin slow. Anti-inflammatories such as Advil and aspirin will help reduce the swelling in the area. Do not take Tylenol. All Tylenol does is hide the pain. It does nothing for inflammation.

Consider an acupuncturist also. They can work miracles.

Good luck!
