Answers:
A good massage can definitely cause soreness in the muscles. There are 'feel good' massages that are simply meant for relaxation and/or enjoyment. And then there are therapeutic massages that have purpose beyond stress relief.

Two ways that a good massage can cause muscle soreness:
1 - It you have had a tense spot in the area of your shoulders for a long period of time, a good massage will help to loosen that muscle. That muscle may have been very tight for a long time, so loosening it can cause temporary soreness.
2 - A good massage can cause a detox affect in various muscles. This can also cause soreness for a few days.

Drinking lots of water will help facilitate the detox process (it's a good thing to do anyways). Slow gentle stretches will help ease other stiffness.
