Does anyone know why Fentanyl is being prescribed for less than horrific pain?!

Question: Does anyone know why Fentanyl is being prescribed for less than horrific pain.?
Second warning is out from FDA on the Fentanyl skin patch, yet doctors are prescribing it for pain after routine surgery. The side effects, black box warnings would seem to make the use of the drug dangerous.Health Question & Answer

Because Methadone killed Nancy Garvin's kid, not Fentanyl and only because HARMD is too busy concentrating on methadone.

And this was a manufacturer problem, people NEED this stuff, the same reason 40 mg Methadone wafers are no longer available. Thanks Nancy you put me and 1,000's of other straight into the bowels of HELL.

And until you are physically dependent on opiates and know the horrors of opiate withdrawal or the real pain that is 50 times worse because of the absence of these drugs in physically dependent people, than question this. Or ask it again.?

Try to be the 1,000's of people that are on this stuff that would be forced to withdraw off it becuase of the FDA making it illegal. You can bet people would be killing themselves without it because the withdrawal was so bad.

Ambien makes people drive in their sleep, there is a bi-polar med out there that can kill you, it says it right in the Commercial and the FDA will not tell us the long term effects of the crap they put in Big Mac's, so what.?

If you felt 30 seconds of opiate Fentanyl withdrawal you would not be asking this question. It is a logical choice for people that used up all their resources in tablets.

And remember 80 times stronger than morphine means 30 times stronger than Heroin. You try to be forced to get off this stuff.? You wouldn't last a day. You would be in a Methadone clinic in a day. I ASSURE you.

Cigarette's and alcohol can be the number one killer's in the world but a drug that actually makes people in chronic pain live and function has got to be questioned. Things happen. And the FDA shoulda put this warning out before the fact. If you rolled a patch in a ball and chewed it, you would be dead in 10 seconds. Do they tell you that.?Health Question & Answer

I've never heard of a doctor prescribing the patch after routine surgery. Those that do so are ignoring everything said about the use of the patch. It's meant for long term use not for someone who needs pain management for two weeks or even two months. There are half inch tall letters on the outside of the box that warn it's for use in opioid tolerant patients only. Meaning to be used by people who have been taking narcotics for some time and are tolerant to their affects. I know there are some doctors out there who are idiots and some who prescribe narcotics for patients who don't need them but you can't punish patients because there are a few stupid or greedy doctors. Personally, I've never heard of a legit doctor who prescribed fentanyl for short term pain management so I'll have to take your word that some do. Those that do are clearly morons. We can't pull a med off the market because there are a few doctors who write scripts without reading the literature given to them. Let's work toward getting rid of those doctors who prescribe repeatedly to drug seekers or who can't be bothered to read the literature about a drug before they prescribe it. My mother's HMO doc prescribed two conflicting blood pressure meds to her and almost killed her. Does that mean we should make blood pressure meds illegal.? My dad's doctor ordered a penicillin diriviative be put in Dad's IV when Dad is allergic to penicillin. Does that mean we should pull penecvillin off the market.?

Any drug, particularly a narcotic is dangerous when the dosage and directions are not followed precisely. Does that mean doctors should do nothing to relieve long term pain in patients.? Tell them to go home and crawl in bed for the rest of their lives.?
Fentanyl is undoubtably a very strong narcotic, that is why the prescribed dosage is calibrated in micrograms rather than milligrams or grams. Take it as prescribed and it's as safe as Tylenol.
There will always be people who abuse narcotics, any and all narcotics, does that mean that patients in legitimate need be deprived of a drug that will allow them to have some quality of life.?Health Question & Answer

Fentanyl is one of the most powerful opioid analgesics with a potency approximately 81 times that of morphine. But i dont know why it isnt being prescribed to more horrific painHealth Question & Answer
