I don't have any actual sleeping disorder of any kind, but just once in a while (not often at all) I have an off night where I may have a hard time falling asleep. If/when this happens, I use a sleeping pill called Meletonin. It is safe to take unless you're pregnant or breastfeeding. You can buy it right off the shelf, don't need a prescription for it. And you can talk to your local pharmacist about it if you have any questions or try looking it up online. also, you can try Tylenol PM and Advil PM. But they are more for, incase you're having a bad pain that is keeping you awake. I hope this helps. If you try anything off the shelf and it doesn't work, then you should see a doctor, especially if you really think you might have Insomnia. That's not really anything to mess around with. Good luck.Health Question & Answer

1. Exercise, but long before you go to bed.
2. Do not watch TV or use a computer the hour before you go to sleep.
3. Avoid caffeine and excess sugar
4. Eat whole foods that are more likely to provide you with the nutrients you need.
5. Melatonin may help, but if your lifestyle (diet, activity or lack thereof) undermines you desire to sleep, no amount will actually "solve" your problem long term.
6. Get to know your body. It is different from everybody else's, has different sensitivities, and different tendencies. Keep a journal that allows you to see a trend in how you feel over-all. For example, "Today I ate....., I walked/ran/didn't exercise at all......I tried...........I got a massage..........tonight/this week I feel_____.
I know it seems like a lot, but I work with a physician and I see a lot of people battle with this problem for a really long time. They pour crap loads of money and time trying things that either don't work, or work but make them feel crappy. Take the time to know your body, because it's unique and special, and it will be worth it.Health Question & Answer
