Advice on groin strain?!

Question: Advice on groin strain.?
I was doing a lunge exercise last night and I felt my groin (inner top part of thigh) pull, or make a clicking noise, I went too far down. It doesn
Answers:
You might have sprained or strained some tissues in that area and those take longer to regenerate than say skin tissues do so be prepared to be careful for at least the next 8 weeks and try not to aggravate it or it will haunt you for months.

I experienced a similar injury when I used to play racquetball and did not treat it with heat and anti-inflamatories (aspirin, naproxyn sodium ect.) and it kept reoccurring for like two years.

You need to increase the blood flow to the area so that those cells can heal faster and one way to do this is by alternating hot/cold packs for 20 minutes at least three times a day.

You probably don't have the time to stick to such a treatment regiment but what you DON"T want to do is to stretch it in any way that will re aggravate it.

You are your own worst enemy, behave yourself . You have some great answers. I will contribute and between them all you can pick out the bits you think will help you.

For immediate relief, follow the R.I.C.E. treatment plan. Rest, ice, compression and elevation are the best immediate treatment for pulls and strains. Avoid aggravating activities for the first one to two weeks and gradually return to sports. Once activity is started again, ice the muscle after exercise to reduce any swelling. After applying the ice, wrap the thigh to keep it compressed. An anti-inflammatory can be helpful to reduce pain and inflammation for up to a week after the injury.
When inflammation subsides, you can start a stretching program. And then a strengthening program of low-intensity exercises. xx

as a long term sufferer of groin troubles i can give you some advice that hopefully will help you. first take an anti-inflammatory such as ibuprofen or diclofenac (with food!!!) if the pain is intolerable.

after a few days of relative rest begin to stretch lightly and exercise your groin by putting a large ball between your legs (pardon the pun) ie. a soccer or basketball and squeezing the ball lightly together with your knees. squeeze for a few seconds, then relax. do three sets of 5 to begin with and adjust according to how you are feeling. i know it sounds weird, but i have had two physiotherapists tell me that the groin recovers better when exercised lightly.

if the pain continues see a physician as groins are tricky animals. next time if it goes again just ice the living daylights out of it and rest up. good luck! Health Question & Answer

If it is what you have described it is an Abductor Tendon that you have injured. To find out stand up with your feet together then step to the side, not out but straight to the side with the injured leg.

I injured mine while at work and the best treatment is rest. I was working for Homeland Security so I was not afforded the rest I was prescribed so mine lasted for MONTHS and due to no rest it healed badly. So even now, 3 years later, I still have problems.

The best I did for it was rest with my leg up but bent to the side with ice on it to help with the swelling then heat to help it relax. But doing one then the other I was constricting and streching it without moving it.

I took aleve for the pain but you have to make the call on what meds you think you need or see a Dr about it. Health Question & Answer

I know what your going through man. A while back my fire department was supervising a motocross event. About halfway through, a rider went down hard. I started to run out there and was foolishly trying to put on rubber gloves while running. I wasnt watching where I was going and tripped on a big rock. Totally pulled a groin muscle. I had pain exactly like you were describing.

About the only way to treat is apply heat and rest the area. Depending on how bad you pulled it, it should clear up in about a week. I know mine really really hurt, like I couldnt even walk for the first couple of days but about a week and a half later I felt fine.

Aw, Chef, no worries, listen to these good peeps and you'll be 100% in no time! Take care when you stretch, we don't want to see you get hurt again.
Edit - If you do bench presses, you'll be okay but if you lift free weights, you risk straining and injuring the area more.Health Question & Answer
