Depending on how bad a fracture is. If it is really bad, sometimes you need a wheelchair. But most of the time it would be crutches.

I fractured my ankle in 2 places and and I had to go the
ER and the doctor put a boot on me. The boot had metal straps in the back and sides
to keep the ankle in place. I had to wear the boot for 8 weeks,
and did not use crutches. Ask your doctor about wearing a supported boot given to you by the hospital ER instead
