Answers:
The pads are there to protect the sensitive area under your arms where there are a lot of blood vessels and nerves coming out, not meant for you to lean on. Make sure there is 2-3 finger widths space under the arm and that you can lean on your hands well. Change the hand piece height if you need to....I like for my arms to be nearly straight but some feel they can push better with more elbow bend.

If you are non weight bearing then you have to hold that foot up and swing and with good arm strength you can do stairs by hopping up then bringing the crutches up, or coming down, crutches first and then lower yourself. Watch your balance!

If you are weight bearing then you can put forward the crutches and the bad foot first step to or step through. Just keep those crutches going with the "bad" foot. And on stairs, good guys go to heaven, bad guys go to hell...in other words, go up good foot first and come down bad foot first, crutches same as in non weightbearing.

Good luck!
Health Question & Answer

Make sure they're adjusted properly. There should be 2-3 fingers between your underarm and the crutch. The weight should all be on your hands. You can actually cause nerve damage by putting all your weight on your underarms

And another tip. The physiotherapist told this to my son when he broke his femur. When using the stairs

good foot to heaven
bad foot to hell

so going up the stairs you start with your good foot, coming down the stairs the broken leg always goes firstHealth Question & Answer

you have to make them one inch less then your real height that will make them in the right position you can also put towel/padding on the part that goes under your armpit so its more comfortable.Health Question & Answer
