Fever with accompanied pain in the lower neck/throat in a 5 year old?!

Question: Fever with accompanied pain in the lower neck/throat in a 5 year old.?
My 5 year old daughter woke up today complaining of pain in her neck and came home from school with a fever above 102. She immediately informed me of pains in her lower head and in the sides of her throat. I called her pediatrician who said if the fever is not reduced by Tylenol/Motrin (which I've given her which did lower it but not eliminate), to take her to the ER. She has been playful but keeps complaining of this pain in her lower head and on the sides of her throat. She has no "cold" symptoms. He (Dr.) suggested it may just be the "flu." I am just so worried about her. ALl suggestions and advice will be appreciated. Thank you!Health Question & Answer

does it hurt when she swallows. it could be strep throatHealth Question & Answer

Tell her to touch her chest with her chin. If she cannot do this because her neck is stiff. I would suggest taking her to the ER, it could be meningitis. But also keep in mind, headache and body ache are common flu symptoms, she could have swollen lymph nodes which would contribute to the pain in her throat and neck. I hope your little girl feels better soon, I always freak out when my step daughter gets sick. I just sit and stare at her to make sure she's ok. lol!Health Question & Answer
