File that one along side the one your mother told you about "if you keep making a funny face like that, your face is gonna freeze on that expression."
Why people get this idea is that gum is often labeled "indigestible." That doesn't mean it just sits in the stomach.
What it does mean is that it passes through out the other side relatively unchanged.
Try it!Health Question & Answer

Listen. Lets think about this. So, you swallow your gum. Perhaps it isnt broken down, but why would it take seven years to get out of your body.?
It'll come out the other end no matter what. And, just because if you through gum in the toilet and it clogs it, it doesnt mean it will clog your digestive tract. There's a big, BIG difference.Health Question & Answer

This is an old wives tale. It may take a little longer than most foods, but your stomach will break it down in a matter of days, and you will pass it as usual.

Your stomach is so strong that it constantly have to create a new layers of fluids so that it doesn't eat itself.

Health Question & Answer

Possible if it stayed in your stomach but I don't think it stays there, it just passes through you. People probably mistake this for the fact that you have a new body every 7 years because it replaces itself over time. Health Question & Answer

No, your body will do the same thing just like if you swallow a penny, it will come out, your body can not break down gum, but it will still get rid of it.Health Question & Answer
