Previous injury to knee.. plz help?!

Question: Previous injury to knee.. plz help.?
ok.. about 18 months ago while playing rugby I had a bad tackle and ended up hurting my knee.. I went to the hospital + i had damaged ligaments in my knee (don't no which ligament) and sum how chipped a piece of bone off my kneecap + ended up with bleedin behind my kneecap (haven't a clue wot that ment lol) so i went in a lightweight cast thing for 2 weeks + in a brace for 4 weeks + then pysio for about a month + a half.. I then went back to rugby 3 months or so later after i had hurt my knee.. and soon enough, i hurt my knee agen but not as bad as before.. I simply went back to my pysio who told me to start my regime of knee strengthenin agen wich i did.. I tried rugby agen a month or so later + hurt my knee agen... not too bad tho so just gave up rugby for a while.. (hope that made sense lol)

now after six month or so (now its been 18 months since the 1st time i hurt my knee) i am starting rugby again.

now my knee feels funny... just like... i dunno.. not the same as my normal knee.. but i'm hopin that its just becuz for so long iv bin molly-codlin it (if thats tha sayin haha) u no wot i mean tho haha. + when iv been kneelin down and stand back up, my knee crunches. i doesnt hurt but it does sound VERY strange. and sometimes iv got to bend my knee inwards and put weight on it and then pull it straight to make it click.. (the inside ligament clicks) + sumtimes my outside ligament clicks lol (sounds in a really bad shape but it doesnt hurt lol)

of what I have described, would you suggest anyway I could strengthen anything so im less likely to injure again.. thanksHealth Question & Answer

Chances are, your knee is never going to feel the same way it did before surgery. I've had two surgeries on my left knee; I did some major damage playing basketball. And even though my knee is now stronger that it was before surgery, it still feels weak.

Typically though it's not your ligaments that are making the crunching sound. You probably have torn cartilage, which could also explain the having to bend your knee inward sometimes. I had a baby sit on the outside of my leg, and tore cartilage, and I have to do that same thing sometimes, and it only hurts sometimes.

To strengthen your knee, you can work on the muscles surrounding it, which will in turn hold your knee together. You can work on your hamstrings, your quads, your calves, and even your butt muscles. I worked on all of those throughout my physical therapy after my surgeries.

also, if your strengthen your core muscles, like your abs, that helps too. I can't really say why, but I was told they do. The best advice for you though is to wear a brace. Not just like an ace bandage brace that you slide on over your knee, but one that actually has support on either sides. You're doctor can also prescribe you one specific to your type of knee injury.

Good luck!

stop playing rugby. problem solved.

j/k..

your hamstrings and quads help stabilize your knees but with the damage you already have, i would highly suggest you wear a knee brace when playing. Health Question & Answer

I can help you actually. Today in fact, I had arthroscopic knee surgery. I injured it in February of this year and fractured it. 8 months later it still hurt, so today I had surgery, and my doctor informed me that even with the surgery my knee would only get back to about 95% of what it was capable of. So I would suggest you do physical therapy for a good month going about twice a week and let the trained professionals pin-point the problem.Health Question & Answer
