I would suggest having 40 people beat you up if you even thought of the idea but that won't work with you like it did with me. Cold turkey works because that's what I did... I have the perfect solution for you though without taking meds. It will take a couple of weeks though. Since you are already at 5 a day... do that for a week straight, the next week 4, then 3, 2 and then 1 until you no longer have the desire to smoke. This will determine if it's the habit or the nicotine you are trying to kill. IM me if you need further guidance but good luck. It'll take patience and persistance.Health Question & Answer

Try hypnotherapy. It sounds to me like you have other stressors and issues which need to be sorted out. Don't go to a hypnotherapist who offers to stop you in one session, go to one who can help you to dig down and find the root cause. Once that has been sorted out, smoking cessation can be dealt with. Try to find a therapist who can teach you EFT as well. Good luck.Health Question & Answer

I tried to quit smoking forever and I discovered that nothing, absolutely nothing can make you quit except yourself! It is a complete mindset.

The patch made me want to smoke more, the gum made me think about smoking all the time. My friend put it to me the best: You have to treat it as though you are an alcoholic...you will always miss and want to smoke, but you have to take it one moment at a time. You have to remember that YOU are in charge of what you do. When I came to that conclusion, I took the time to smoke one last cigarette, and always reminded myself that I was in charge. I haven't smoked in two years now. It also helped that I didn't tell anyone when I quit so people weren't bugging me about how I was doing. This is YOUR battle :)

When I would have those cravings that make you think that 'your not going to be okay if you don't smoke' just remember that you are NOT okay if you DO smoke!

Don't forget that your lungs start to heal immediately so every relapse you have makes your lungs start all over in the healing process. Your brain produces a chemical by itself that nicotine mimics. After years of smoking, your brain stops producing the chemical since you are supplying it already with cigarretes. When you quit, you are just feeling the lack of that chemical...which is good because your brain will then start to produce its own nicotine-like chemical again on its own and you will stop thinking about smoking naturally.

My mom quit with the patch about 6 years ago and she still has about a fourth of a patch on her arm everyday because she's convinced that she needs the nicotine. She never made up her mind to be stronger, better, and above the mindset that smoking makes you function.

The worst is the first week. I just kept taking every second as it came, and before you know it, it's been a whole day, then a week, then it's just to late to mess it up! Eventually other people smoking will start to bother you and you'll become one of those mean ex-smokers who just hates the smell like me :) I also had to change habits like timing my life around it. Find something more productive to do while you are waiting on something, talking on the phone, etc. After the first full day that is accomplished of not smoking, you will feel amazing because you actually DO have the will power to do whatever you want.

GOOD LUCK! Oh yeah, and everything smells sooooo much better...including you! :)Health Question & Answer
