How long should I refrain from lifting after surgery?!

Question: How long should I refrain from lifting after surgery.?
I had gallbladder surgery this past Saturday. During that they found that I had a hernia beside my belly button and repaired it as well. How long should I refrain from lifting anything.?Health Question & Answer

I had mine removed a week ago and just had my post-op appointment. I was told nothing over 20lbs for 4 weeks. Since you also had a hernia repaired, I would wait an additional 2 weeks or ask the nurse practitioner at your surgeons office. Just remember, that there are LAYERS healing below the surface, so even if it looks ok and you feel ok, take it easy!Health Question & Answer

My husband was restricted to lifting 20 lbs or less for two weeks after his gallbladder surgery. (no hernia involved) I would definately call and ask your doctor (or nurse) for specifics for yourself. I wouldn't recommend lifting anything until you've talked to your dr or nurse. Health Question & Answer

Wait at the very least 30 days, depending on how you heal and what they did to repair the hernia. When you go to the doctor for check ups ask how you are healing and when can you start exercising again. Health Question & Answer

the doctor should have told you.. maybe a few weeks or just days... a week will probably work.. but idkHealth Question & Answer
