Put ice on it for 10min. then wait 45min. and repeat. also take a little ibuprofen ( ex. Motrin ). It sounds like you may have some inflammation causing the pain. The doctor can tell you more on what is causing it. But ibuprofen will help with inflammation and serves as a mild muscle relaxer, also 10 min of ice will help with inflammation and swelling (even if you don't see the swelling it generally comes with inflammation and is part of the cause of it) more than ten min at a time and your body will think it is freezing and try to heat that area up to combat the freezing resulting in more bad then good, so keep the ice to 10min per hour.

Injury = swelling, swelling = inflammation, inflammation = pain.

Till you fix the injury your only treating the symptoms.

Hope this and the Doc. helps, you may want to bring in your running shoes, since shoes improperly matched for your feet can cause a lot of running injuries. The more specialized the doc the better the recovery.

It sounds like you have gone to hard too fast.

This is really common and nicknamed "shin splints" anti inflammatory drugs are good for the pain relief but you really need to take it easy or it will hurt more and take even longer to heal. Its nothing too serious though. Try swimming to keep fitness up.
