That would be your deltoid. There are good and bad ways to work out. You should gradually increase. If you have only ever done 5 push ups at a time and you jump to 50 you may hurt yurself and do a lot more harm than good. Make sure you ice it. It will keep the swelling down and thus keep the blood in the area to a minimal and not tear the muscle which causes that pain. Almost sure you did not do anything more than tear the muscle, which is good that's what causes growth. If you hurt it you would have known right after not necessarily the next day. Ice it, take it easy with it, and see how it feels after each night. It should gradually get better. If you ski or snowboard you will know how long you are sore after something like that even though you did not hurt yourself. Hope I helped. =]Health Question & Answer

You could either be sore or it's a light strain. You probably just overused it a bit. If 50 push-ups is way at the high end of your ability I wouldn't do that much too often. You don't want to strain your body past it's limits. Build up slowly. But anyway, if you're really worried about it or it hurts either a lot or for a long time I'd suggest going to the doctor to get it checked out. But you'll porbably be fine within a week.Health Question & Answer
