Is one supposed to shave a person's chest before applying an AED?!

Question: Is one supposed to shave a person's chest before applying an AED.?
Don't worry, I'm not currently in the process of using one :)

I remember when I was on my first aid squad, all the Defib kits has small disposable razors in them. I believe they had the Philips HeartStart ones and a few yellow ones made by Medtronic. In my house, we have one that we got when my father had extra health insurance money on a debit card, its a Fully Automatic Philips Heartstart. Aside from the pads, it has just a set of medic shears; no razor.

So basically, I'm asking if, with this defib, shaving on the chest (where the pads would go) is necessary.Health Question & Answer

Answers:
If the hair on the chest is very thick, it should be removed before the patches are applied. the reason for that is, if there is a lot of hair present not only will it burn the hair it may also burn the skin.and a good connection to the skin will not be made. the performance of the aed will be compromised.Health Question & Answer

when needing to use a defibrillator every second counts, while you do run the risk of hair (heavy hair) catching of fire the minute it would take to shave the chest could cause the person to dieHealth Question & Answer

All these folks above me are right. It boils down to the real furry guys the pads don't stick if they look like Chewbackas younger brother. And I hate the smell of burning hair.Health Question & Answer

Only if the hair will cause a contact or adherence problem with the electrodes.
