Patello-femoral injury.?!

Question: Patello-femoral injury..?
I have a patello-femoral injury in both of my knees. My orthopedist said surgery was not necessary to correct the problem and I spent 6 weeks this past summer in physical therapy. My concern now is that my left knee seems to be getting really bad (despite following my exercises) and I'm a hip hop dancer, any advice.?Health Question & Answer

Answers:
Your condition is somewhat similar to arthritis. The back of your kneecap (patella) and the front of the end of your femur interact at your knee joint. Sometimes the tracking of the patella and the nature of activities in which the individual regular engages causes a bit more friction than is desirable resulting in patellofemoral injury. Therapy can be helpful via developing an exercise program to balance medial and lateral thigh muscle strength to improve patellar tracking (motion relative to the femur). Anti-inflammatory medications and glucosamine-chondroitin sulfate (1,500 mg glucosamine) daily helps some people. And, occasional joint injections as needed (e.g., steroid or Synvisc) help to decrease inflammation or improve joint lubrication.

Good luck.Health Question & Answer

I recently suffered a patello-femoral injury. They can fade in pain and severity over time. My advice to you for now is to buy a knee brace that be used hot or cold for heat and cold therapy, but one that also has magnetic therapy built in. This will increase blood flow and promote healing to the tissues in the area affected. If the pain persists or gets worse, consult your primary doctor.Health Question & Answer
