Question: Does an IV hurt a lot.?.? Help please i'm nervous =\.?
I need an IV to get tested to find out if I'm responsive to a clotting drug. I need an IV, will it hurt a lot....? What is the estimated time the needle will be in my arm....? Please help I'm really nervous!Health Question & Answer

Only the first poke hurts after that we pull out the needle and advance a flexible catheter in your vein, which you can not really feel. It only hurts for about 5 seconds, may be even less. Once the catheter is in place and secured with tape it is like nothing ever even happened and you shouldnt be able to feel that it is even there. So it is really, no big deal, I promise, I do a lot of these every day and I have had plenty done on me while learning :)Health Question & Answer

It is alright to be nervous. I shouldn't hurt once they get through your skin. The needle will be removed and it is just a piece of plastic left in your arm. That should not hurt at all. The plastic part of the IV will be in for as long as it takes them to do the test you are getting. The biggest help you can give the nurse is to HOLD STILL. If you move they could miss and have to try again.
Good luck. Health Question & Answer

Please do this!! When the nurse or whomever comes in to start your IV ask them if they are really good at getting it in on the first try. If they say anything but yes ask them to get the one who does the best IV insertion. My husband had to have many IV's and after I found out it was o.k. to ask about it he never had a bad time of it. You are paying them and they are there to make you feel better, you have the right to get the best service you can. There is always someone who is the best at this on any shift. Don't be shy. When it's done well it may be mildly uncomfortable, once it's in I don't think you will feel much. You will be fine and it will probably be one of those things that seem worse in your mind than it really is.I said a prayer for you, take care.Health Question & Answer

i JUST got my blood taken for the first time last week and im 18... i was so nervous going in but the nurse told me to close my eyes and its a little pinch... i was so shocked it didnt hurt that bad, and honestly im not so good with the whole needle thing. you should be fine :) it was in my arm for barely a minute... but thats for getting your blood sampled...Health Question & Answer

the most pain is in the initial stick - like a small ant bite
after that it's almost non-existent - they have a new IV device
that uses a flexible tube that the needle puts in - and that you barely feel
once it's there - -

all the best and good luckHealth Question & Answer

It's just like getting a shot. After the first couple of seconds, not bad at all.Health Question & Answer
