Question: I have a torn ACL.. what should i replace it with.?
I am getting surgery in November but I am not sure whether to use hamstring tendons or the platellar tendon. Any good reasoning for either.? I'm a younger female athlete. Health Question & Answer

I'm sorry to hear about your acl tear. I've had acl reconstruction done 3 times. And the best thing you can do is not get discouraged. Mine was done with a cadaver ligament. However I've been told that a lot of doctors faver a patella tendon and my doctor was going to use the patella tendon. The only problem with that is that you risk having tendonitis and it will hurt to kneel for a while. The hamstring is supposedly a quicker rehab but has a higher chance of stretching out but you don't have the pain in kneeling. It's ultimately a tough choice. i've been told in the past to go with the patella tendon, but it just didn't work out for me. Good luck, it's a tough rehab but it's an incredable feeling when you can get back on the playing field again. The first ride on a bike and even running is just a wonderful feeling. Don't get discouraged! The first few days are rough but it gets easier. Health Question & Answer
