What Should I do about my finger and should I take action against doctor?!

Question: What Should I do about my finger and should I take action against doctor.?
I broke my finger a year ago and the doctor that treated it told me to let it heal on its own. We recently called for a follow up because the finger looks very abnormal it has a lump at the joint that hasn't shrunk yet. I can't bend it all the way and it starts to hurt while I write. Anyway when we call the doctor tells us he's not really a specialist and refers us to someone else. We're mad because we've spent tons of money on this guy who has just given me tons of x-rays and told me to do nothing about my pinkie.Health Question & Answer

While the doctor should probably have told you that he isnt a specialist...

UNLESS HE HAS ORTHOPAEDIC SURGEON OR FINGER SPECIALIST WRITTEN ON HIS DOOR!... then he probably let you know that when you went in.

People need to realise that GPs (general practioners) are just that. They know a little of everything to point you in the right direction for the help you need. They usually have no specialised knowledge.

You waited a year for follow up.? If you had any doubts about his treatment, then seek another opinion... or even talk to your doctor.

I am not discrediting doctors out there, but some of them are AWFUL for sure. Just as there were really smart and talented kids in school, and there were those that struggled, the same is with medical school.

I hurt my pinkie playing Netball, crazy swelling etc, had xrays and was told no fracture, should return to normal. Now my pinkie is locked and will not extend fully. Saw a doctor a while later about something else, noticed my finger and suggested that maybe a ligament had come out of place, not a fracture at all.

And advice to anyone who reads the above question and feels similar feelings towards a doctor... Check with the doctor. If you dont understand something, ask them to explain. Doctors are required to make sure you have informed consent on all procedures. If they are rude, awful, or do not give you a level of confidence in their abilities, then find a new one.

And if you believe that his judgement on your treatment, and his apparent lack of discussion with you about your treatment, then report him to the board that he is a part of (such as RCGP - royal college of general practioners). The board he belongs to should be in the "letters" after his name.Health Question & Answer

That really sucks! Doctors take your money but try asking for a refund! First u need to get your poor finger better. Try using health gloves to improve circulation for faster healing & to help reduce swelling. I find natural therapy works best for me. Health Question & Answer

Talk to a lawyer. It sounds like you may have a case. This is why I do not trust doctors. I use a board certified herbal chemist. also know as a naturopathic doctor.Health Question & Answer
