I have a broken ankle...?!

Question: I have a broken ankle....?
ok, im only 15, and i just recently (like a week and a half ago) broke my ankle, from what I can tell i broke the malleolus bone i think. The doctors dont know if i need surgery yet but im so scared right now, i have never had surgery done on me (besides when i was a baby) and they said i would need a screw or something in my ankle, i am so scared that something will go wrong and i will never be able to play sports again, can someone please tell me about this surgery or how long it will take to heal, im only 15 and i dont want to be in pain, or not be able to play sports for the rest of my highschool years.

pleasee help me,
thank you

my brother broke his growth plate in his knee when he was fifteen, he had to have surgery as well and get screws in his leg and stuff, it took awhile for him to heal, but by the following year he was playing football and back to all his normal activities like it had never happened don't worry about it you'll be fine I'm praying for youHealth Question & Answer

Im sorry about your ankle! But playing sports shouldnt be the only reason to skip out on the surgery. NOT having the surgery can lead to lifelong effect. You might not beable to walk right or do any kind of walking in adult hood. I think that is more important that wheather you can play sports in highschool.Health Question & Answer

Did you watch the olympics gymnastics.? Cause I know they kept mentioning all the injuries and how this one has a screw, etc. They're obviously still able to compete in sports. Don't panic, just look at the bright side (yes there is one!) I was on crutches for awhile in 9th grade and people are a lot more helpful and you can get your parents to feel sorry for you and spoil you a bit. Health Question & Answer

Ouch sorry for the bad luck, but im pretty sure even the shortest recovery is around 2 weeks thats what happened with my sister and she was lucky she didn't break her leg so hard.Sadly the longest is no recovery at all :(Health Question & Answer

I broke my ankle, and had surgery that night.... it doesnt take long at all . Recovery is 3 months .... then back to good. Eventually , you can get the pins and screws out ! then FREE :)Health Question & Answer

I'm much older than you, but broke my ankle over a year ago. I have 8 screws and a 5 inch plate just on one side, and broke all 3 bones. While my recovery has been a bit tough because I'm older, I suspect you'll do great! I went to physical therapy with plenty of girls your age who had the same type injury as me, and they did perfect!

If you play sports now - you'll play them again! Don't worry about the surgery, it doesn't hurt, and the screws don't either, physical therapy hurts when you first start, but it's pretty tolerable. Right now, you're probably in more pain than you will be if they do surgery. Physical therapy lasts 4-6 weeks, depending on what they need to do. You can also speed up your own recovery when you start therapy by always doing the exercises they give you to do at home.

Good luck - you're gonna do great!
