Do you find that generally acetaminophen does not work?!

Question: Do you find that generally acetaminophen does not work.?
Tylenol for example unless it is laced with something stronger does not seem to work for any kind of pain. Does anyone else find that to be true.? What works best for you.?Health Question & Answer

Answers:
Tylenol, based with acetaminophen, is fine as a pain reliever. However, many people don't know that acetaminophen is paired with caffeine to speed up the pain relief. Those who drink lots of coffee, or drink lots of sodas with caffeine on a regular basis, will find that acetaminophen is not as effective due to their high tolerance of caffeine.
Ibuprofen is a better pain reliever for people who have developed a high tolerance to caffeine. Ibuprofen is sold under the names of Advil, Ibu-Tab, Midol IB, Motrin, Nuprin, Pediacare Fever, and Rufen. Ibuprofen does not have any pairing with caffeine, so those who have heart conditions are better suited for Ibuprofen.
Buffered aspirin such as Bufferin is fine for people with infrequent headaches and fevers. Many people can be allergic to aspirin, so it's really best to see a doctor and takes an allergy test before taking over-the-counter medications.
Me. I prefer Ibuprofen, as the caffeine with acetaminophen increases my heart rate and gives me insomniaHealth Question & Answer

Acetaminophen is only good for fevers pretty much. It does nothing for any aches and pains. The best over the counter for pain is either advil or excedrin...both of which work exceptionally depending upon what kind of pain you have. If a throbbing pain, advil (or any ibuprofin) works best. If you have aches (like a back ache, or other bodily pain), excedrin is really great.

I don't use tylenol for anything unless it is for a fever, which is pretty much the only thing it helps with. It is seriously useless with any pain...even if its extra strength.Health Question & Answer

I think it really depends on what you are taking and for what.

Tylenol can actually make things worse if you take it too often, it can sometimes cause rebound headaches.

I have a cronic pain disorder so I am always taking something! I generally try to rotate what I take, tylenol with some caffeine works ok for headaches, ibro works pretty well for muscle pain since it is an anti inflamitory and asprin works alright for some headaches but can make me feel queezy. Naproxen sodium (aleve) works well for my husband, but I can't take it because it makes me ill.

You might find that some herbal or homeopathinc things work well for you. I really like head on for headaches. Every person is different with different tolerace for different medications and too much of anything can make things worse, not better.Health Question & Answer

I can only attest to the fact that no matter what kind of pain I've tried to take tylenol for it has never worked well for me. You might need to switch to motrin or aleve depending what kind of pain you are trying to treat. The best thing to do however, if you are dealing with a chronic pain condition is see a doctor for proper pain management before things get out of hand. Hope you find relief from whatever you are trying to treat...Good luck!Health Question & Answer

I don't use Tylenol, for one thing it builds up in your system..

I use old-fashioned Bayer Aspirin.....it works for pain as well as anything, and quickly....and you can double up with out over-dosing.....Health Question & Answer

You've likely used it too much - and have built a tolerance to the pain killer, while building intolerance to slighter pain.Health Question & Answer
