It's possible that you have carpal tunnel or a pseudo carpal tunnel syndrome, such as thoracic outlet syndrome. There are actually tests that are used to diagnose this and numbness in certain fingers actually mean different things.

I am a massage therapist and we often deal with this problem. A doctor would probably tell you right off the bat that you have carpal tunnel syndrome. They would want you to have surgery to clip the binding that holds those nerves together; a great way to treat the symptoms but rarely the actual underlying cause, which does nothing in the long run if that's not the real problem. But I encourage you to talk to a good massage therapist. Massage can often fix this.Health Question & Answer

A tingly hand or arm is often the result of compression in the bundle of nerves in the neck. Loosening the neck muscles releases the pressure. Compressed nerves lower in the body govern the feet, and standing up and walking around will typically relieve the sensation. An arm that has "fallen asleep" may also be "awoken" more quickly by clenching and unclenching the fist several times; the muscle movement increases blood flow and helps the limb return to normal.
